1- Safari Animal

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- June 15, 16, 17 from 9:30 to 11:30 (Ages 6 to 14)

 

Title: Rainbow Zebra Painting

Medium: Acrylic Paint, Canvas

Art Skills: Drawing, Designing, Painting, Color Mixing

Artspeak: Primary & Secondary Colors, Line & Shape, Emphasis


Students will learn to draw, color mixing, and paint an abstract styled zebra using a palette of rainbow colors.  Instructors will teach step-by-step to guide students in learning basic painting techniques.

Title: Safari Animal Painting

Artspeak: Warm & Cool Colors, Pattern, Repetition, Balance


Students will learn to draw and paint a safari animal of their choice: Giraffe, Hippo, or Elephant. Next, they will layer their drawings with patterns creating repetition illustrating the balance of shape and line. The final step will be to explore the color families of warm and cool to determine the final color palette of their painting.

Title: Recycled Paper Pulp Journal

Medium: Recycled Paper

Art Skills: Papermaking, Designing, Embellishment

Artspeak: Paper Pulp, Cellulose Fibers, Handmade Paper

 

Students will explore how paper is made from different cellulose (plant-based) fibers such as wood, cotton, and flax. Instructors will guide the students to pull pulp fibers to make their own handmade sheets of paper.  Kids will enjoy adding embellishment to create fun textures in their papers. The finished design will be made from cutting and gluing the handmade paper to their journal.

Title: Cast Paper Pulp Bowl

Medium: Recycled Paper

Art Skills: Designing, Casting with Molds 

Artspeak: Paper Pulp, Casting, Relief Mold

 

Students will explore how to make a bowl from paper pulp by re-purposing small scraps of paper that are normally thrown away.  Instructors will show participants how paper pulp is made and students will use both pre-made and their own paper pulp to form a bowl. Students will learn about types of molds and work with a relief mold to create their piece.

Title: Campfire Landscape

Medium: Mixed Media, Canvas

Art Skills: Painting, Sculpting

Artspeak: 3-D Design, Texture, Manmade, and Organic Material

 

Students will design their own campfire mixed media art including both manmade and organic materials on canvas board. Using rocks, they will build camp critters to sit fireside. Instructors will show participants how to use a variety of media to express their ideas.

Title: Firefly Ceramic Mason Jar

Medium: Bisqueware, Glazes

Art Skills: Drawing, Designing, Painting

Artspeak: Texture, Glazing Techniques, Value

 

Students will create the illusion of a jar filled with fireflies using glazing techniques. Instructions will teach the students step-by-step ways to use glazes to achieve a painterly effect on ceramic.

 

Please note- Due to the firing process, student's ceramics will not be ready at the conclusion of camp. Campers will be informed at the camp of the date and location for artwork pick-up.

Title: Clay Slab Animal Sculpture

Medium: Kiln Fired Clay, Glazes

Art Skills: Hand Building Clay Techniques, Glazing

Artspeak: Clay Slab, Texture, Slip, Score, Glaze

Students will draw design concepts for a clay slab animal of their choice. The instructors will teach the students how to sculpt, add texture, and glaze their sculptures.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- July 6, 7, 8 from 12:30 to 2:30 (Ages 6 to 14)

Title: Fairy House Mushroom Pinch Pots 

Medium: Kiln Fired Clay, Glazes

Art Skills: Hand Building Clay Techniques, Glazing

Artspeak: 3-D Form, Pinch Pot, Score, Slip, Glaze

Students will learn how to hand-build using the pinch pot method for forming the clay. Using their imaginations, the participants will make their designs one-of-a-kind creating as they vision what the fairy home facade would look like.

Title: Lego Inspired Self Portrait

Medium: Markers, Colored Pencils, Paper

Art Skills: Drawing

Artspeak: Modular Block Design, Portrait

 

Students will learn about different styles and methods of drawing to create a modular block-style self-portrait.  Instructors will show students how to draw themselves as modular block designs as they draw inspiration from Lego blocks. Students will need to bring with them a headshot of themself. Please do not send any professional photos as we do not want to damage them during the art process.

Title: Video Game Pixel Inspired Art

Medium: Drawing Pencils, Markers, Colored Pencils, Paper

Art Skills: Drawing, Designing, Using a Ruler

Artspeak: Grid, Pixel, Design

 

Students will explore many types of drawing materials while creating pixelated artworks. With step-by-step guidance from the instructors, the students will learn how to properly hold a ruler to layout a grid for their final work of art.

Title: Beach Boardwalk Food Sculpt

Medium: Polymer Sculpt

Art Skills: Sculpting 

Artspeak: Form, Sculpt, Texture

 

Students will explore a variety of forms (cube, sphere, cone, cylinder, pyramid, ellipsoid) to hone their sculpting skills. These skills will be used to model polymer clay into fun food sculptures inspired by all the popular items people find on the boardwalk. Icecream, popcorn, saltwater taffy, chocolates, pretzels, and more yummy!

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- July 20, 21, 22 from 12:30 to 2:30 (Ages 6 to 14)

Theme: Aquarium Jar

Medium: Mixed Media & Polymer Clay Sculpt

Art Skills: Sculpting 

Artspeak: Form, Texture, Sculpt

Students will explore a variety of forms (cube, sphere, cone, cylinder, pyramid, ellipsoid) to hone their sculpting skills. The instructors will support the students to sculpt their choice of sea life to create a unique aquarium in a glass jar complete with a base of sand.

This camp is full - Participants that register now will be added to the waitlist and contacted by SPLAT if a spot becomes available.

1- Canvas Paint & Embellishment

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- August 3, 4, 5 from 9:30 to 11:30 (Ages 6 to 14)

 

Title: Hugging Animal on Canvas

Medium: Mix Media, Clay Animal, Acrylic Paint, Canvas

Art Skills: Sculpting, Painting

Artspeak: Clay Slab, Hand Building, Under Glaze, Painting 

 

Students will learn both sculpting and painting techniques in this camp. Instructors will teach simple clay slab lessons where students will draw an animal that will clasp onto something in the painting. Examples include a bird, koala, or sloth. Instructors will teach a variety of painting techniques for the students to utilize to create the painted background on which the ceramic animal will be added.

2- Canvas Paint & Embellishment

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- August 3, 4, 5 from 12:30 to 2:30 (Ages 6 to 14)

 

Title: Painting with Bead Embellishments

Medium: Mixed Media, Clay, Acrylic Paint, Canvas

Art Skills: Painting, Embellishing

Artspeak: Drawing Simple Shapes, Painting, Texture, Embellishing

The students will be given guidance to draw an image of their choice. With instruction, the students will transfer their design onto canvas and paint it with a variety of painting techniques using brushes and sponges to apply the color. The final step will be to embellish the painting by adding beads to give their artwork texture and sparkle.

Theme: Llama Wrapped in a Woven Blanket

Medium: Corrugated Cardboard, Acrylic Paint, Yarn

Art Skills: Designing, Drawing, Painting, Weaving

Artspeak: Corrugated Cardboard, Weaving, Warp, Weft, Patterns, Texture

Students will be guided through a step-by-step lesson to draw and paint their own llama. A second lesson will be taught giving the students the opportunity to add texture to their artwork by weaving a blanket for their llama.

Title: Pinata Making 3D Design

Medium: Corrugated Cardboard, Acrylic Paint, Embellishments

Art Skills: Designing a Hollow Core 3 Dimensional Design, Drawing, Painting, Embellishing

Artspeak: Hollow Core Design, Corrugated Cardboard, Design

The students will learn how to layout their three-dimensional design by drawing it onto the cardboard and then cutting it out. Next instructors will teach the students to build their designs with glue and other methods to attached their pinata pieces together. The final step will be to add paint and embellishment to bring vibrancy to the final piece of art.

 

1- Forest Friends

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- August 17, 18, 19 from 9:30 to 11:30 (Ages 6 to 12)

 

Title: Mosaic Forest Animals with Handbuilt Tile

Medium: Mosaic Substrate, Glass Tiles, Ceramic Clay, Glaze, Acrylic Paint

Art Skills: Tiling, Handbuilging 

Artspeak: Mosaic Tiling, Handbuilding Clay, Score, Slip, Underglaze

 

The students will be guided by the instructors to layout their unique pattern of glass tiles for their mosaic designs. Instruction will be given teaching students how to hand-building and underglaze tiles that will be used in the final mosaic.

 

SPLAT staff will fire the ceramic tiles, adhere them to the student's design, and grout the final mosaic.

 

Please note- Due to the firing and grouting processes, the student's mosaic will not be ready at the conclusion of camp. Campers will be informed at the camp of the date and location for artwork pick-up.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- August 17, 18, 19 from 12:30 to 2:30 (Ages 6 to 14)

 

Title: Pottery Painting Forest Animals

Medium: Bisqueware, Glaze

Art Skills: Designing, Drawing, Painting

Artspeak:  Bisqueware Pottery, Color, Glaze, Translucent, Opaque

The students will be guided to draw their choice of forest animal. Instructors will provide a lesson on glazing techniques specifically on how to achieve a range of color through value transitions ranging from translucent to opaque.
