Kids & Teens Summer Camps

ages 6-14

If it appears a camp is full when registering, please call the studio if you would like to be added to the waitlist.

All camps: $90 per participant plus
Art Material Fee.

1st Child - $90, $81 for each additional child registered in the same camp in the same family.

Important Information:

  • All camps take place at SPLAT Hershey - 1669 East Derry Road, Hershey, PA 17033

  • Please dress-for-a-mess and wear closed-toed shoes!

    • Safety first please - Children should not wear sandals or flip-flops in the studio.

  • Kids & teens are welcome to bring to camp a water bottle and snack. Please label all items with their name.

  • BONUS - Participants who are signed up for both the morning and afternoon camp during any week can stay for our Lunch Bunch hour between classes with no extra fee. Lunch Bunch hour can be purchased at $12 per day/per child or $30 for all 3 days if they are only signed up for the morning or afternoon. 

    • Please bring lunches in a disposable bag labeled with the student's name(s).

 

Week One

Title: Majestic Mosaic

Dates & Time: June 13, 14, & 15 from 9:30-11:30

Ages: 6 to 14

Tuition: $90/ sibling discount for child(ren) in same camp $81  

Art Material Fee: $30

Medium: Mosaic & Ceramic Tiles

Art Skills: Design Layout, Glazing Pottery 

Art Speak: Radial Design, Coat of Arms, Significance 

 

In this camp, students will design a radial layout selecting colors and patterns for a self identifying symbol. Instructors will guide students to create a color composition that embraces symbols of inner strength and excellence. The students will learn step-by-step how to layout their mosaic and ceramic designs.

Title: Crazy Creative Collage

Dates & Time: June 13, 14, & 15 from 12:30-2:30

Ages: 6 to 14

Tuition: $90

Art Material Fee: $25

Medium: Paint, Paper, Fabric, Sequins, Beads and more

Art Skills: Design Layout

Art Speak: Collage, Mixed Media, Focal Point, Emphasis 

In this camp, students will select an animal image as a focal point for their collage design. They will learn to layer various art materials such as paint, paper, fabric, sequins, and more to illustrate their unique creative flare. Using color and collage embellishments, the students will emphasize their selected animal as the focal point of their artwork.

Title: Mini Model

Dates & Times: June 20, 21, & 22 from 9:30-11:30

Ages: 6 to 14

Tuition: $90

Medium: Paint, Clay 

Art Skills: Designing, Painting, Sculpting 

Art Speak: Scale, Modeling 

In this camp, students will learn painting and sculpting skills to make miniature places. I.e. Golf course, playground, skate park Instructors will teach step-by-step how to create the miniature scene.

Title: Touchable Texture

Dates & Time: June 20, 21, & 22 from 12:30-2:30

Ages: 6 to 14

Tuition: $90

Art Material Fee: $20 

Medium: Paint, Gel Medium 

Art Skills: Drawing, Painting 

Art Speak: Texture, Opaque, Translucent 

In this camp, students will learn about acrylic painting techniques. Instructors will teach the usage of acrylic paint and introduce students to a variety of gel mediums to add texture.

Week Three

Title: Little Land

Dates & Time: June 27, 28, & 29 from 9:30-11:30

Medium: Acrylic Paint, Nature Items, Found Objects 

Art Skills: Designing, Sculpting, Building 

Art Speak: Miniatures, Story, Imaginative, 3 Dimensional, Scale 

In this camp, students will learn how to design, work, and create an imaginative 3 Dimensional “Little Land” (diorama) of their choice. I.e. Fairy Garden, Dinosaurs Instructors will teach students 2 and 3 dimensional skills and guide them as they make their one-of-a-kind work of art.

Title: Making Miniatures

Dates & Time: June 27, 28, & 29 from 12:30-2:30

Ages: 6 to 14

Tuition: $90

Art Material Fee: $25

Medium: Clay 

Art Skills: Sculpting 

Art Speak: Form, 3-D 

In this camp, students learn how to sculpt polymer clay into miniatures of their choice. Basic sculpting techniques will be introduced and students will be encouraged to bring to existence clay sculpts that are of interest to them. The finished clay mini sculptures can be used as wearable art or displayed in a diorama.

Title: Kallista’s Krazy Kreations

Dates & Time: July 11, 12, & 13 from 9:30-11:30

Medium: Balloons

Art Skills: Balloon Bending and Twisting 

Art Speak: Sculpture, Twister, Balloon Bender, Twister

In this camp, students will learn how to twist and bend balloons into balloon animals and more. Instructors will teach basic skills of using a balloon pump to create sculptures and how to use their balloon art to decorate for special occasions.

Title: Handmade Hodgepodge

Dates & Time: July 11, 12, & 13 from 12:30-2:30

Medium: Ceramic, Paper making, Paint

Art Skills: Glazing, Pulp Painting, Casting 

Art Speak: Crafting, Glazing, Paper making, Process Art  

In this camp, students will learn new crafting techniques each day. Instructors will encourage kids to experiment, play, and practice skills with the process being the focus of the experience. 

Week Five

Title: Pocket Pals 

Dates & Time: July 18, 19, & 20 from 9:30-11:30

Medium: Clay, Glaze

Art Skills: Sculpting, Glazing

Art Speak: Slip, Glaze

In this camp, students will learn handbuilding skills to make a ceramic pocket in the likeness of an animal. Instructors will teach step-by-step sculpting and glazing lessons where students will learn about the properties of clay. 

*Please note: Due to the nature of ceramic clay, finished projects will be ready for pick up 2 weeks following the end of camp.

Title: Fish Dish

Dates & Time; July 18, 19, & 20 from 12:30-2:30

In this camp, students will learn to sculpt a fish in a slump mold to form it into a dish. Instructors will teach step-by-step sculpting and glazing lessons where students will learn ceramic techniques.

*Please note: Due to the nature of ceramic clay, finished projects will be ready for pick up 2 weeks following the end of camp.

Week Six

Title: Busy Bee

Dates & Time: July 25, 26, & 27 from 9:30-11:30

​Ages: 6 to 14

Medium: Beeswax, Paper, Fabric, Clay, Wire 

Art Skills: Decoupage, Sculpting 

Art Speak: Decoupage,   

In this camp, students will learn crafting techniques that are inspired by bees. Mr. Martin from Martin Bee Farm in Jonestown will visit the studio on July 25 to provide the students with a demonstration on honeybees and honey production. Instructors will guide students to make art using beeswax and the honey bee as a catalyst for their art making.

Title: Modular Masterpiece

Dates & Time: July 25, 26, & 27 from 12:30-2:30

​Ages: 6 to 14

Medium: Wood, Paint, Gel Mediums, Drawing 

Art Skills: Design, Draw, Build 

Art Speak: Modular Design 

In this camp, students will learn about modular design and build their own. Drawing inspiration from the hexagon found in the honeycomb, instructors will guide students to select a module shape of their choice to build a final design on canvas.

Week Seven

Title: Life Lens 

Dates & Time: August 1, 2, & 3 from 9:30-11:30

Ages: 6 to 14

Tuition: $90

Material Fee: $20

Medium: Drawing Pencils, Paper

Art Skills: Drawing from Observation 

Art Speak: Grid Drawing, Value Scale, Sketching, Shading, Scale 

In this camp, students will learn to draw from a photograph using the grid method. Instructor will teach students how to study line, shape, and value to create an illustration that is in the likeness of the photograph.

Title: See Sketch

Dates & Time: August 1, 2, & 3 from 12:30-2:30

​Ages: 6 to 14

Medium: Drawing Tools, Paper 

Art Skills: Drawing from Observation, Expression, and Symbol 

Art Speak: Observational Study, Self Expression, and Abstraction as Symbol  

In this camp, students will be introduced to ideas on still life, self expression, and abstract. Each day the instructor will present different drawing exercises for students to explore drawing techniques. 

Week Eight

Title: Kinetic Konstruction

Dates & Time: August 8, 9, & 10 from 9:30-11:30

Medium: Paper, Foam,  

Art Skills: Designing, Building

Art Speak: Design, Form, Force, Aesthetic, Function 

In this camp, students will explore STEAM (science, technology, engineering, ART, and math) concepts as they build a variety of rockets. Instructors will teach students about the intersection of technology and art by considering how when we create we need to give attention to how it works and how it looks.

Title: Making Movement

Dates & Time: August 8, 9, & 10 from 12:30-2:30

Medium: Paper, String

Art Skills: Designing, Building

Art Speak: Design, Form, Movement 

In this camp, students will explore how to make artful objects that also move playfully. Instructors will guide students to selecting imagery that is engaging to them while incorporating movement.

Week Nine

Title: Painting Plants

Dates & Time: August 15, 16, & 17 from 9:30-11:30

​Ages:6 to 14

Tuition: $90

Art Material Fee: $20

 

Medium: Acrylic Paint, Canvas

Art Skills: Painting, Color Theory

Art Speak: Cool Colors, Warm Colors, Undertone

In this camp, students will select a plant they would like to paint and learn different color theory techniques regarding how-to paint it. Instructors will guide students through color mixing exercises for students to play and observe different results using different color combinations for a desired outcome.

Title: Garden Grow

Dates & Time: August 15, 16, & 17 from 12:30-2:30

Medium: Bisque Ceramics, Glaze 

Art Skills: Design, Glaze 

Art Speak: Design, Glazing 

In this camp, students will select garden themed ceramics to design a layout and paint with glaze. Instructors will teach students how to create different patterns, shapes, and colors for their one-of-a-kind designs.
