These are drop-off camps located at SPLAT - 1669 East Derry Road, Hershey, PA
-
Please dress-for-a-mess and wear closed-toed shoes! Safety first please - Children should not wear sandals or flip-flops in the studio.

Kids & teens are welcome to bring to camp a water bottle and snack. Please label all items with their name.

SPLAT Studio has a fenced in outdoor learning area. Weather permitting, we often engage our students in outdoor creative activities. Please apply sunscreen prior to arrival.

Drop-off for all camps is 5 minutes before the camp starts and following camp we request prompt pick up to avoid being charged a late fee of $1.00 per minute. Staff will manage dismissal ensuring that each child is paired with the adult providing their transportation. Please advise the staff daily if there are any changes regarding pick-up, drop-off, or if there are concerns pertaining to allergies or medical needs.

​ALL DAY CAMPER BONUS - Participants who are signed up for both morning and afternoon camps during any week can stay for our Lunch Bunch hour between classes with no extra fee.
If your child is participating in a 1/2 day camp, extend their stay at the studio by an hour when you add our Lunch Bunch opportunity. Kids come with their packed lunch & enjoy games and crafts together. Please click the link below to learn more!​​
Week One
Title: Fireflies Taking Flight
Dates & Time: June 4, 5 & 6 2024 9:30-11:30 am

In this camp, students will create an acrylic painting of fireflies in a jar. Instructors will guide students to create a canvas painting of fireflies in a jar to create a nighttime scene. The students will learn step-by-step how to paint on a black canvas using white as the outline color and “Night Glo” paint for a special glow-in-the-dark effect.

In this camp, students will tie-dye a t-shirt and select from pre-made printing block designs their desired images to print on their t-shirts. The students will learn to create a one-of-a-kind textile design by folding and tying their t-shirt for the dying process. Using color theory knowledge and block printing techniques, the students will complete a wearable piece of artwork.
Week Two
Title: Corrugated Collage on Canvas

Medium: Collage Techniques with Cardboard and an array of Craft Materials

In this camp, students will create a corrugated cardboard collage using an array of craft materials. The students will learn to accentuate specific areas of the work of art making a focal point for the viewer. Instructors will teach step-by-step how to design and layer the cardboard and assemblage of craft materials.

In this camp, students will create a 3 dimensional work of art from cardboard and create emphasis using spray paint and paint to define the details of their chosen story. The student will learn about building techniques for use with cardboard and paper. Instructors will teach the students how to create stories and build their vision.
Week Three
Title: Simple Sewing
Dates & Times: June 18, 19 & 20 from 9:30-11:30 am

In this camp, students will create a variety of sewn works with simple techniques. The students will learn to thread a needle, use an embroidery hoop, and sew different stitch patterns. Instructors will guide students through each sewing process step-by-step.
Title: Peace Patch- PSP Museum Partnership

In this camp, students learn how to create a patch that symbolizes peace. The students will learn to thread a needle, use an embroidery hoop, and sew different stitch patterns. Instructors will guide students through each sewing process step-by-step.
On Thursday, June 20 we will host a special guest, Sergeant Michael Chaplin, PSP Retired. He will provide our campers a demonstration on the history of the Pennsylvania State Police Patch. Additionally, there will be a PSP Recruiter available to take questions regarding the children’s interest in law enforcement and possibly becoming a trooper. Week Four
Title: I scream, you scream, we all LOVE ICE CREAM!

In this camp, students will make a ceramic ice cream bowl. The students will learn handbuilding techniques that will include coil construction. Instructors will teach step-by-step sculpting and glazing lessons where students will learn about the properties of clay.
Each student will receive compliments from Cherry Blossom Creamery Owner, Mr.Cliff, a coupon to use on a bowl of ice cream. Title: Sneakers, Flip Flops & More

In this camp, students will make a variety of clay ornaments. The students will learn new building techniques to make fun and unique ornaments. Instructors will encourage the kids to experiment, play, and practice skills with the process being the focus on the experience.

*Please note: Due to the nature of ceramic clay, finished projects will be ready for pick up 2 weeks (7/12) following the end of camp.
Week Five
Title: Beautiful Butterfly Paint & Sculpt
Dates & Time: July 9, 10, & 11 from 9:30-11:30 am

In this camp, students will make a mixed media work of art using a butterfly as a focal point of their design. Students will learn how to use a range of paintbrushes, not overloading the brush, and techniques to apply the paint to the canvas. Additionally, the students will learn how to add details to their butterflies with polymer clay and wire. Instructors will teach step-by-step both the painting process and sculpting skills.

In this camp, make the first letter of their name using a wooden form, acrylic paint, and mixing medium. Students will learn to mix colors to create a continuous band of colors and then layer those colors with a mixing medium to create a unique texture using a variety of tools. Instructors will teach step-by-step layering techniques for paint and how to create patterns using a palette knife and other tools.
Week Six
Title: Great Graffiti

In this camp, students will build a fence and decorate it with graffiti style lettering and images. The students will learn about graffiti, street art, and murals with an emphasis on being a good citizen by seeking appropriate permission before painting on any surface. Instructors will teach step-by-step different font styles and painting techniques.
​
On Tuesday, we will host a special guest virtually. Isaac Horning was born in 1998 in West Chester, PA. As a teenager, he explored graffiti culture and discovered his love for creative language. Now with degrees in Visual Studies, Art Therapy, and Counseling, Isaac's work explores the connections between people and perceptions through the process of graffiti-informed art making. He is also Ms. Meg's nephew and I am excited to share this talented man with our SPLAT students! :)

In this camp, the students will create a paper collage image from their choice from photos provided by the teacher. *There is an option for the student to bring in their own 8”x10” image. Students will learn to draw from a photograph using the grid method. Instructors will teach students how to study line, shape, and value to lay out their image and then fill it in with color using cut paper shapes.

In this camp, students will make a mosaic work of art using a one-of-a-king self generated pixel design. Students will be introduced to the idea of using a pixel (square tile) as a picture element where many squares are arranged together in a sequence of color to create a picture. Instructors will present different drawing exercises for students to explore different ideas for creating their pixel designed mosaic.
Week Eight
Title: Paper Mache´ Animal

In this camp, students will make a three dimensional sculpture of an animal.
Students will learn about building a form that resembles an animal of their choice. Instructors will lead the students step-by-step in the process of drawing a plan for the sculpture that will be used to construct the form from recycled and new materials.

In this camp, students will draw and make radial designed art with colored pencils and handmade paper. Students will learn how to draw a pattern of shapes arranged around a center point and how to pull paper pulp to make paper shapes to be utilized in their design. Instructors will show students how to create symmetrical designs and how to incorporate handmade paper shapes into their final design.
Week Nine

In this camp, students will create a work of art using embossing techniques, watercolor, and colored pencils. Students will learn how to raise the paper to create both an image of an insect and texture in the design. Instructors will guide students through each step of the art making process.

In this camp, students will create a painted landscape that includes a foreground, middleground, and background. Students will learn how to emphasize a focal point in their painting. Instructors will teach students how to work from observation using their choice of landscape photos provided by the teacher. *There is an option for the student to bring in their own 8”x10” image.

Title: Coil Basket
Dates & Time: August 13, 14 & 15 from 9:30-11:30 am

In this camp, students will make a coil basket in a color scheme of their choice.
The students will learn to wrap, form, and sew a coil basket. Instructors will teach students how to thread a needle, wrap the yarn, and coil the core to create a base, sides, and rim on the basket.

In this camp, students will use a modern day approach to creating a dreamcatcher to symbolize ideas they hope to come true some day. Students will learn to use a variety of craft materials to make a web like design and decorate it with items such as leather, feathers, and shells. Instructors will guide the students from design concepts to finished artwork.
Week Eleven
Title: Ceramic Letter

In this camp, students will glaze a ceramic letter with a painted pattern of their choice. Students will learn about complimentary color schemes and dot patterns. Instructors will teach students how to create different patterns, shapes, and complimentary colors (red+green, blue+orange, or yellow+purple) for their one-of-a-kind designs.

In this camp, students will glaze a summertime themed ceramic tile of their choice. Students will learn glazing techniques of how to mix and layer colors. Instructors will teach students how to create different patterns, shapes, and colors for their one-of-a-kind designs.

Lunch Bunch
Have your artist(s) stay at SPLAT for Lunch!
In the hour between our morning and afternoon camps for kids and teens, we spend an hour eating, playing games, and creating.

Lunch bunch hour takes place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday that our Kids and Teens camps are held from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm.
​

Artists who are enrolled in both the morning and afternoon camps during the same week are automatically registered for Lunch Bunch free of charge. These children should not be registered using the button below.
​

Artists who are enrolled exclusively in a morning or afternoon class can be registered to stay for Lunch Bunch for $15 per day/per child or $39 for all 3 days. Click the button below to register your child(ren) for Lunch Bunch. Checkout will prompt you to register for either an AM or PM Camp - please choose the appropriate date/camp time for your child if you purchase individual dates (at $15 per day), or - choose all 3 days (for $39).​​
