2025 Summer Art Camps

Kids & Teens • For ages 6-14

All Camps Tuition includes Art Material Fee.​

​Important Information:

​

  • These are drop-off camps located at SPLAT - 1669 East Derry Road, Hershey, PA 

  • Please dress-for-a-mess and wear closed-toed shoes! Safety first please - Children should not wear sandals or flip-flops in the studio.

  • Kids & teens are welcome to bring to camp a water bottle and snack. Please label all items with their name.

  • SPLAT Studio has a fenced in outdoor learning area. Weather permitting, we often engage our students in outdoor creative activities. Please apply sunscreen prior to arrival.

  • Drop-off for all camps is 5 minutes before the camp starts and following camp we request prompt pick up to avoid being charged a late fee of $1.00 per minute. Staff will manage dismissal ensuring that each child is paired with the adult providing their transportation. Please advise the staff daily if there are any changes regarding pick-up, drop-off, or if there are concerns pertaining to allergies or medical needs.

​ALL DAY CAMPER BONUS - Participants who are signed up for both morning and afternoon camps during any week can stay for our Lunch Bunch hour between classes with no extra fee. 

If your child is participating in a 1/2 day camp, extend their stay at the studio by an hour when you add our Lunch Bunch opportunity. Kids come with their packed lunch & enjoy games and crafts together. Please click the link below to learn more!​​

Week One

Title: Fireflies & Lightning Bugs

Dates & Time: June 10, 11, & 12 from 9:30-11:30 am

Ages: 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

 

Medium: Glaze Painting, Ceramic

Art Skills: Drawing, Designing, Painting Techniques, Glaze Types  

Art Speak: Bisqueware Pottery, Glaze, Color, Pattern

​Students will go step by step through designing, drawing, and painting their very own ceramic jar gleaning inspiration from the beetles commonly known as fireflies & lightning bugs. Instructors will show participants how to successfully blend and layer the glaze colors to achieve a successful result. 

 

​*Note: Due to the firing process, final projects will be ready for pick-up 2 weeks after camp. 6/24/25

Title: Personalized Painter’s Palette

Dates & Time: June 10, 11, & 12 from 12:30-2:30 pm 

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

Medium: Acrylic Paint, Wood Forms, Found Objects

Art Skills: Painting, Planning, Collage 

Art Speak: Color Theory, Paper and Fabric Color, Balance

​

In this camp, students will create a personalized artist’s palette illustrating a story about themself. The students will learn, plan, and carry out all the steps in the collage design process including: painting, paper and fabric cutting, and embellishments. Using color theory knowledge and collage techniques, the students will complete a unique piece of art.

​

*Note: The students will need to provide some keepsake items from home. I.e.duplicate photos & trinkets

Title: Clay Critter on Canvas

Dates & Time: June 17, 18, & 19 from 9:30-11:30 am

Ages 6 to 14  Tuition: $149

Medium: Ceramic Clay, Acrylic Paint

Art Skills: Handbuilding Clay, Painting

Art Speak: Mixed media, Storytelling with pictures

​

In this camp, students will learn handbuilding techniques to create a clay critter of their choice. Additionally, the students will learn how to paint a scene as part of the story for their clay critter. The combination of art forms will be brought together to create a final work of art.

Title: Triptych Paint & Paper Sculpt

Dates & Time: June 17, 18, & 19 from 12:30-2:30 pm

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

Medium: Acrylic Paint

Art Skills: Paper Forming, Painting

Art Speak: Mixed media, Storytelling with picture

​

In this camp, students will learn that a triptych is a 3 panel piece of art. Students will select their choice of an urban or rural landscape to illustrate. Additionally, the students will learn how to paint a scene as part of the story for their clay critter. The combination of art forms will be brought together to create a final work of art.

Week Three

Title: Partnership With Hope Walks

Dates & Times: June 24, 25 & 26 from 9:30-11:30 am 

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $159

​

In this camp, students will design a leather wrap that will be used on a brace for a child that is in the healing process from clubfoot. Hope Walks is a Christian organization and children may be requested to pray for the child recipient of their design. This is an opportunity to learn about and help children in Africa who were born with clubfoot. With each registration in this camp, SPLAT will make a donation of $20 to Hope Walks for the art kit. 

​

On Tuesday, Jenn Boyd, Communication Projects Coordinator for Hope Walks will provide a live presentation for the students. 

​

Title: Yarn Painting

Dates & Time: June 24, 25 & 26 from 12:30-2:30 pm

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

Medium: Yarn, Canvas

Art Skills: Designing, Gluing, Cutting

Art Speak: Abstract, Realistic, Patterns

​

In this camp, students will create a yarn painting by selecting between an abstract or realistic design. They will learn how to use yarn as a medium to create color and texture in their design. Students will use different types of yarns when adding texture and pattern to help their design flow.

Title: Observational Drawing

Dates & Time: July 1, 2, & 3 from 9:30-11:30 am

Ages 6 to 14​ • Tuition: $149

 

Medium:  Pencil, Charcoal, Oil Pastel on Paper

Art Skills:  Shading, Composition, Layout

Art Speak: Value, Still Life

​

In this camp, students will explore the process of observational drawing. Learning to see is learning to draw. Instructors will guide students through finding objects to arrange together in a still life arrangement. Students will learn pencil shading, charcoal techniques, and oil pastel blending, as well as what makes an interesting composition.

Title: Drawing Techniques

Dates & Time: July 1, 2, & 3 from 12:30-2:30 pm

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

Medium: Paper, Pen, Markers

Art Skills: Simple Line Drawing, Stippling, Crosshatching 

Art Speak:  Stippling, Crosshatching

​

In this camp, students will learn three different drawing techniques: Line drawing, stippling, and crosshatching. They will use these new techniques to draw a picture of an artist's tool. I.e. paintbrush, scissors, pencil and more The different techniques will help students learn about how to create form using different ways to create value.

Title: Fiery Friend

Dates & Time: July 8, 9, & 10 from 9:30-11:30 am

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149​

 

Medium: Polymer Clay, Wire

Art Skills: Designing, Sculpting, Wire Bending

Art Speak: Sculpture, Armature

​

In this camp, students will use handbuilding skills to sculpt their very own dragon by first creating an armature to layer the polymer clay veneer. They will also learn how to bend wire to make their dragon’s wings. Students will learn about color families to make their dragons beautiful. I.e. primary colors, secondary colors, and analogous colors.

Title: Zazzy Zoo 

Dates & Time: July 8, 9, & 10 from 12:30-2:30 pm

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

Medium: Polymer Clay, Cardboard, Paper, Markers

Art Skills: Detailing, Sculpting

Art Speak: Sculpture

​

In this camp, students will learn how to design a zoo starting with a plain cardboard box and using paper, markers, and other embellishments to enhance the zoo. They will then use polymer clay to handbuild their choice of realistic or fantasy animals to live at the zoo.

Title: Super Hero You

Dates & Time: July 15, 16 & 17 from 9:30-11:30 pm

​Ages: 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149.00

Medium: Drawing and Watercolor collaged on painted canvas

Art Skills: Painting and Watercolor Techniques, Sketching

Art Speak:  Design, Logo, Thumbnails

​

In this camp, students will delve into the graphic design world to make a personal superhero logo. Instructors will guide students through the design process by researching, sketching, designing, and making. In this camp students will learn how to design a logo and finalize their design onto the canvas board using paint, watercolor, and paper.​​

Title: Comic Talk

Dates & Time: July 16, 17 & 18 from 12:30-2:30 pm 

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition $149

Medium: Marker, Watercolor, Paint, and Collage

Art Skills: Designing, Drawing, and Watercolor Techniques

Art Speak: Design, Shape Line

​

In this camp, students will explore the world of comic book design. Instructors will guide students through the storyboarding process to create a finished cartoon. In this camp, students will learn drawing skills with marker and watercolor techniques to make their original comic pop! Students will also learn how to collage their cartoon on a wooden form for display.

Week Seven

Title: Palmdale Perspective Peek-a-boo

Dates & Time: July 22, 23, & 24 from 9:30-11:30 am

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

Medium: Drawing, Paper, and Polymer Clay collaged on cardboard

Art Skills: Latch-making,  Sculpting, Perspective, Collage

Art Speak:  2-point perspective, Collage

​

In this camp, the students will explore businesses in the Palmdale area of Hershey to find inspiration for their perspective drawing. Instructors will teach students how to draw in 2-point perspective, sculpt polymer clay, and create hinge doors and latches using tape, string, and brads. In this lesson, students will learn the art concept of perspective and collage.

Title: Bead Painting

Dates & Time: July 22, 23, & 24 from 12:30-2:30 pm

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

Medium: Beads, Acrylic Paint, Canvas 

Art Skills: Painting, Beadwork

Art Speak: Beadwork  

​

In this camp, the students will explore beadwork as a medium to create a finished piece of art. Attention will be given to details, individual features, and bead selection to achieve desired color and texture.

Week Eight

Title: Partnership with Prairie Fire Farms Foundation

Dates & Time: July 29, 30, & 31 from 9:30-11:30 am

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $159

​

Medium: Bisque Pottery, Glaze

Art Skills: Drawing, Glazing

Art Speak: Drawing from Photos, Line, Shape, Color

​

In this camp, students will use photos from Prairie Fire Farms Horse Rescue as inspiration for creating their own horse drawing on a ceramic plate. They will learn about equine care and rehabilitation as a catalyst for their art making. Instructors will teach students how to observe and draw a horse head and then use glazing techniques to achieve a final pottery plate. With each registration in this camp, SPLAT will donate $20 to Prairie Fire Farms Foundation to support the rescue of horses and equestrian education programs for children that are economically disadvantaged.

​

On Tuesday, a volunteer spokesperson from Prairie Fire Farms Horse Rescue will provide a live presentation for the students.

Title: Portrait Painting

Dates & Time: July 29, 30, & 31 from 12:30-2:30 pm

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

Art Speak: Proportion, Value

​

In this camp, students will learn how to draw their own portrait. They will discover proportion through comparison of the size or shape of their facial features.

​

*Note: Students will need to bring an 8 ½” x 11” copy of a photo of themself to camp.

Week Nine

Title: Sewing Stuffies

Dates & Time: August 5, 6, & 7 from 9:30-11:30 am

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

Medium: Fabric, Thread

Art Skills: Sewing

Art Speak: Running Stitch, Whip Stitch

​

In this camp, students will explore creating their own stuffed animal or creature in this camp. Instructors will teach students to sew fabric together, attach elements such as buttons, and embroider on some of the small details. Students will get to create their own character, give them a unique story, and bring their dream stuffed animal to life.

Title: Wire Form & Tissue Paper Art

Title: Framed Fantasy

Medium: Acrylic Paint, Paper, Frames

Art Skills: Paper Quilling, Painting Techniques 

Art Speak: Quilling, Mixed Media

​

In this camp, students will learn quilling, the art of rolling paper. This technique will be used to add color and texture on the surface of an acrylic painting the students create. Students will first plan out their design and decide what they want to paint and what needs to stand out and be made of paper.

Title: Outer Space Exploration

Dates & Time: August 12, 13, & 14 from 12:30-2:30 pm Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

In this camp, students will learn how to paint an outer space related image of their choice and sculpt some stars out of glow-in-the-dark polymer clay. Students will learn how painting and sculpting can come together to form a single art piece.

Title: Collograph Printmaking

Dates & Times: August 19, 20, & 21 from 9:30-11:30 am

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

Medium: Mixed Media

Art Skills: Cutting, Gluing, Printingmaking

Art Speak: Collograph, Printing, Texture

​

​In this camp, students will create their one-of-a-kind printing plate using a variety of materials such as cardboard, yarn, and foam. The plate will be used to print their design on paper. Students will learn how to use different textures and materials on their plates and different colors to make their design pop. Not only will the paper be a piece of art but so will the plate.​

Title: Monochromatic Landscape & Collage

Dates & Times: August 19, 20, & 21 from 12:30-2:30 pm

Ages 6 to 14 • Tuition: $149

Medium: Acrylic Paint, Collage Materials

Art Skills: Layout Design, Paint,Collage Layering

Art Speak: Foreground, Background, Monochromatic​

​

In this camp, students will paint a mountain scene using a monochromatic value scale. Students will learn how to create a foreground by looking at photographs of landscapes that illustrate objects close to the viewer and a background showing objects farther away from the viewer. 

Lunch Bunch

Have your artist(s) stay at SPLAT for Lunch!

 

In the hour between our morning and afternoon camps for kids and teens, we spend an hour eating, playing games, and creating.

​

​

​​

  • Lunch bunch hour takes place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday that our Kids and Teens camps are held from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm.

​

  • Artists who are enrolled in both the morning and afternoon camps during the same week are automatically registered for Lunch Bunch free of charge. These children should not be registered using the button below.

​

  • Artists who are enrolled exclusively in a morning or afternoon class can be registered to stay for Lunch Bunch for $15 per day/per child or $39 for all 3 days. Click the button below to register your child(ren) for Lunch Bunch. Checkout will prompt you to register for either an AM or PM Camp - please choose the appropriate date/camp time for your child if you purchase individual dates (at $15 per day), or - choose all 3 days (for $39).​​

​

  • When registered for Lunch Bunch, afternoon camp drop-off time shifts to 11:30 AM instead of 12:30 PM

  • When registered for Lunch Bunch, morning camp pick-up time shifts to 12:30 PM instead of 11:30​ AM

​

​

  • Please Note:

    • Families must provide lunch for their own children

    • We recommend packing lunch in disposable bags/containers.​

    • Please remember to label your child's lunch before bringing it to the studio.

    • If lunch boxes are left at the studio, they will be donated after our last camp is held.
