Winter 2026 Classes 

All classes & camps take place at SPLAT Hershey - 1669 East Derry Road

Our children’s art classes guide students step-by-step through the creation of a unique project. Along the way, they’ll explore artistic techniques, experiment with different mediums, and develop their creative thinking skills.

Once a Month Classes - ages 3-12

4 Week Classes - ages 6-14

Triptych Paint & Paper Sculpt 

Medium: Acrylic Paint

Art Skills: Paper Forming, Painting

Art Speak: Mixed media, Storytelling with an illustration

In this class, students will learn about triptychs—artworks made up of three panels—and create one of their own! Each artist will choose either an urban or rural landscape to illustrate and paint a background that tells part of the story for their paper sculpt critter. By combining painting and sculpture, students will design a colorful, imaginative final piece that showcases their creativity and storytelling skills.

Student Tuition: $135 (Includes Education & Art Materials.)

Drawing Techniques

Art Skills: Simple Line Drawing, Stippling, Crosshatching
Art Speak: Stippling, Crosshatching​

​In this class, students will explore three fun and classic drawing techniques: line drawing, stippling, and crosshatching. Using pens and markers, they’ll learn how artists use these skills to create texture, depth, and form. Students will learn to draw from life—and begin to understand that drawing is learning to see. By the end of class, they’ll have a detailed drawing that shows how simple lines and dots can bring art to life!

Comic Talk - Comic Book Design Class

Medium: Marker, Watercolor, Paint, and Collage
Art Skills: Designing, Drawing, and Watercolor Techniques
Art Speak: Design, Shape, Line

​In this exciting class, students will dive into the colorful world of comic book design! With guidance from instructors, they’ll learn how to plan and draw their own cartoon through the storyboarding process. Using markers and watercolor techniques, students will bring their original characters and scenes to life. To complete their masterpiece, they’ll collage their finished comic on a wooden form—creating a bold and display-ready work of art that’s uniquely theirs!

Sewing Stuffies

Medium: Fabric, Thread
Art Skills: Sewing
Art Speak: Running Stitch, Whip Stitch

In this cozy and creative class, students will learn the art of hand sewing as they design and create their very own stuffed animal or creature. Instructors will guide them through using simple stitches—like the running stitch and whip stitch—to sew fabric pieces together. Students will also learn how to attach buttons and embroider details to make their creations truly unique. Each young artist will dream up a character, craft its story, and bring their one-of-a-kind plush friend to life!

Learn How Illustrators Tell a Story with Pictures

Fourth Sunday from 12:30-1:45 pm

In this class, students will create a project inspired by a picture book artist. They’ll discover how illustrators use images to tell stories by experimenting with different techniques and artistic styles. Each lesson helps students build basic art skills, explore a variety of materials and tools, and grow their creative confidence—all while having fun bringing their own stories to life!

Ages 3-12 are welcome!
Ages 3, 4 & 5 must attend with an Adult helpmate (18+) 
Ages 6+ Drop-Off

Learning to Think Like an Artist

In this class, students will explore a variety of art forms and materials, creating both 2-D projects like drawing or painting and 3-D projects such as sculpting and building. They’ll also participate in a Community Arts Exposure, discovering local art opportunities, meeting working artists, and visiting art venues. This class helps students build skills, try new techniques, and gain confidence, all while having fun and connecting with the wider world of art.

Student Tuition: $255 (Includes Education & Art Materials)

Mastering Media

Thursdays

from 6:00 to 8:00 pm

Inclement Weather Policy

If the Derry Township School District is released early or closed due to weather conditions, the studio will also be closed and art programming will be rescheduled. Due to scheduling constraints, make-up classes may not be offered the same night and time as the originally scheduled class. Best efforts will be made to allow for the majority of children to participate in the make-up class. Notification of cancellation and make-up classes will be posted on SPLAT's Facebook page and an email will be sent to participating families.
