Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- June 9, 10, 11 from 9:30 to 11:30 (Ages 8 to 14)

 

Title: Hand Building a Mug

Medium: Kiln Fired Clay

Art Skills: Hand building Clay Techniques

Artspeak: Slip, Score, Slab, Glaze


Students will learn how to hand build and decorate their own mug. Instructors will teach students to roll out, build, and decorate a mug using clay slabs. In this lesson, students will learn about the attributes of clay and how to successfully work with it. *Note- Due to the nature of clay, final projects will be ready for pick-up 3 weeks after camp (7/2) at SPLAT Hershey.

Title: Ceramic Wind Chimes 

Medium: Kiln Fire Clay

Art Skills: Hand building Clay Techniques

Artspeak: Shape, Slab, Carve, Glaze


Students will explore how to create and decorate their own ceramic wind chimes. Instructors will teach students to roll out, cut shapes from, and create unique designs on clay slabs. In this lesson, students will learn about the attributes of clay and how to successfully work with it. *Note- Due to the nature of clay, final projects will be ready for pick-up 3 weeks after camp (7/2) at SPLAT Hershey. Kit to assemble wind chime will be sent with participant upon pick-up to be finished at home.

Title: Cast Paper Pulp Bowl

Medium: Recycled Paper

Art Skills: Designing, Casting with Molds 

Artspeak: Paper Pulp, Casting, Relief Mold

 

Students will explore how to make a bowl from paper pulp by re-purposing small scraps of paper that are normally thrown away.  Instructors will show participants how paper pulp is made and students will use both pre-made and their own paper pulp to form a bowl. Students will learn about types of molds and work with a relief mold to create their piece.

Title: Recycled Paper Journal

Medium: Recycled Paper

Art Skills: Designing, Paper-making

Artspeak: Paper Pulp, Collage, Paper Mold

 

Students will learn how to make handmade paper by re-purposing small scraps of paper that are normally thrown away.  Instructors will show participants how paper can be made at home and students will use both pre-made and their own recycled paper to design a journal cover.  Students will also learn collage techniques while applying their design to their journal.

Title: 2-D Nature Pattern

Medium: Mixed Media 

Art Skills: Designing Patterns and Final Layout

Artspeak: Mosaic, Pattern, Nature, Manmade and Organic Material

 

Students will learn how to use organic materials to create a pattern or image on canvas.  Instructors will show participants how to bring together a variety of beans, corn kernels, and rice to create an image or design by focusing on different colors and shapes of the materials. Students will lay out their design similar to a mosaic to create this unique project.

Title: Nature Vase

Medium: Real and Artificial Leaves & Flowers

Art Skills: Creating Patterns and Gluing them to a 3-D Glass Cylinder

Artspeak: Pattern, Collage, Man-made and Organic Material

 

Students will make a collage on a cylindrical form using a wide variety of nature inspired materials.  Instructors will teach students about using collage techniques on a three-dimensional form. Students will choose which nature inspired materials they would like to use on their form and create a design or pattern with those materials.

Title: Colorful Cat

Medium: Acrylic Paint, Canvas

Art Skills: Drawing, Designing, Painting

Artspeak: Abstract, Pattern

Students will learn to draw and paint an abstract cat with rainbow colors. Instructors will teach a step-by-step guided drawing and painting lesson where students will learn drawing skills and basic painting techniques. Participants will also create a felt mouse to go with their painting.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- June 30, July 1,2 from 12:30 to 2:30 (Ages 6 to 12)

Title: Pup Portrait 

Medium: Acrylic Paint, Canvas

Art Skills: Drawing, Designing, Painting

Artspeak: Realistic, Shading, Portrait

Students will learn to draw and paint a realistic dog. Instructors will teach a step-by-step guided drawing and painting lesson where students will learn drawing skills and basic painting techniques. Participants will also make a fabric dog toy to go with their painting.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- July 7, 8, 9 from 9:30 to 11:30 (Ages 8 to 14)

Title: Anime Portrait

Medium: Markers, Colored Pencils

Art Skills: Drawing

Artspeak: Proportion, Style, Portrait

 

Students will learn about different styles of drawing and use a cartoon style to create a portrait caricature.  Instructors will show students how to draw themselves and others as anime characters and how to draw anime-inspired facial features. Students will have the choice to create a self-portrait or to bring a picture of someone else they would like to draw instead.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- July 7, 8, 9 from 12:30 to 2:30 (Ages 8 to 14)

 

Title: Video Game Maze

Medium: Canvas, Popsicle Sticks, Paint

Art Skills: Gluing, Painting, Designing

Artspeak: Acrylic Paint, Design, Pattern

 

Students will learn how to build and design their own popsicle stick maze on canvas board.  Instructors will show participants how to create their own maze and execute their unique painted design. At the end of camp, students will have a fully functional game that can be played with a marble.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- July 14, 15, 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 (Ages 8 to 14)

 

Title: Robot Design  

Medium: Mixed Media

Art Skills: Paper Folding 

Artspeak: Paper Folding, Shape, Form, Kinetic Sculpture

 

Students will get to design and decorate their own wind-up robot and create a setting for their robot to live. Instructors will teach students how to build with art materials around their wind-up robots and a matching three-dimensional setting to place the robot in. Students will focus on creating a story for their robot and applying it to their design.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- July 14, 15, 16 from 12:30 to 2:30 (Ages 8 to 14)

Theme: Designing a Comic Book Character

Medium: Acrylic Paint and Canvas

Art Skills: Designing, Storytelling  

Artspeak: Character, Grid, Gutter Sizes Panel Staggering, Composition

Students will create their own comic book character and a comic strip on an 11"x14" canvas. Instructors will teach students how to brainstorm and develop a character and story and then turn it into a piece of art. Students will get to lay out the panels of their comic with paint after practicing their designs separately first.

Title: Sculpting a Hand

Medium: Modeling paste, Acrylic Paint, Collage Materials, Canvas

Art Skills: Building, Sculpting, Painting

Artspeak: Armature, Texture, Modeling Paste, Sculpting, Collage

 

Students will create and design a three-dimensional hand on a canvas background.  Instructors will show participants how to build a hand from newspaper and modeling paste and how to paint with acrylics. Students will use their own hand as a guide for their modeling paste sculpture and then create an environment in which their hand is interacting with.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- July 21, 22, 23 from 12:30 to 2:30 (Ages 6 to 12)

 

Title: Abstract Fruit Triptych

Medium: Acrylic Paint, Paint Mediums

Art Skills: Painting, Modeling 

Artspeak: Texture, Color, Painting, Modeling

 

Students will create a themed three-panel painting while learning how to use acrylic paints and mediums.  Instructors will teach students about how to create unique textures and color combinations within their themed triptych. Students will get to experiment with mixing different paint mediums with acrylic paints to explore individual desired effects.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- July 28, 29, 30 from 9:30 to 11:30 (Ages 8 to 14)

 

Title: Stuffed Felt Animal

Medium: Felt and Thread

Art Skills: Designing, Drawing, Sewing, Acrylic Painting

Artspeak: Designing, Form, 3-Dimensional

 

Students will explore creating their own stuffed animal or creature in this camp. Instructors will teach students to sew fabric together, attach elements such as buttons, and paint on some of the small details. Students will get to create their own character, give them a unique story, and bring their dream stuffed animal to life.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- July 28, 29, 30 from 12:30 to 2:30 (Ages 8 to 14)

 

Title: Embroidered Canvas Image

Medium: Canvas, Thread, Acrylic Paint

Art Skills: Designing, Drawing, Sewing, Painting

Artspeak: Design Layout, Color, Stitch

 

Students will create their own embroidered pattern or image by using sewing techniques on a canvas.  Instructors will teach students how to create their image by pulling thread through canvas and adding details with acrylic paint. Students will have the opportunity to create an image of their choice from a landscape, to an animal, to a pattern, and so on.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- August 4, 5, 6 from 9:30 to 11:30 (Ages 8 to 14)

Theme: Abstract Assemblage

Medium: Mixed Media, Acrylic Paint

Art Skills: Building, Cutting, Gluing, 

Artspeak: Assemblage, Abstract, Corrugated Cardboard  

 

Students will design their own abstract designs with a variety of different materials.  Instructors will show participants how different mediums can be used in combination to create an outdoor three-dimensional landscape. Students will get to experiment with a variety of materials including different types of papers, paints, and craft mediums.

Title: 3-D City Scene 

Medium: Mixed Media

Art Skills: Building, Cutting, Gluing

Artspeak: Collage, Corrugated Cardboard

 

Students will design their own town or city using a variety of different materials.  Instructors will show participants how different mediums can be used in combination to create a three-dimensional city or town scene. Students will get to experiment with a variety of materials including different types of papers, corrugated cardboard, acrylic paints, and craft mediums.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- August 11, 12, 13 from 9:30 to 11:30 (Ages 6 to 12)

 

Title: Observational Drawing 

Medium: Pencil, Charcoal

Art Skills: Drawing from Life

Artspeak: Shape, Line, Value Scale, Proportion

 

Students will learn how to draw from life by studying both objects and landscapes in front of them. Instructors will teach students about proportion and different techniques to accurately draw what they see. Participants will get to choose what they would like to draw from different items and views from both inside and outside of the studio.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- August 11, 12, 13 from 12:30 to 2:30 (Ages 6 to 12)

 

Title: Designing and Re-designing Logos 

Medium: Oil Pastels, Markers, Colored Pencils, Watercolors

Art Skills: Drawing

Artspeak: Blending, Shading, Wash

 

Students will explore many different types of drawing materials and techniques. Instructors will teach participants how to use a variety of different materials when drawing and how they can be combined to create a cohesive artwork. Participants will get to choose which materials they enjoy most and create multiple images of their choosing.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- August 18, 19, 20 from 9:30 to 11:30 (Ages 6 to 12)

 

Title: Pottery Painting a Picture

Medium: Bisque Tile, Glaze

Art Skills: Drawing, Designing, Painting

Artspeak: Bisqueware Pottery, Glaze, Color, Pattern


Students will create their own themed stencils to use when they paint a blank ceramic tile.  Instructors will teach participants how to make their own stencils, how to use them on their ceramic tile, and the proper techniques to glaze their piece properly. Students will use different colors and patterns to create an image of their choosing. *Note- Due to the nature of clay, final projects will be ready for pick-up 2 weeks after camp at SPLAT Hershey.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- August 18, 19, 20 from 12:30 to 2:30 (Ages 6 to 12)

Title: Tic-Tac-Toe

Medium: Acrylic Paint and Glaze

Art Skills: Painting, Designing

Artspeak: Glaze, Color, Pattern

Students will get to design their own tic-tac-toe board and glaze pieces of their choice. Instructors will teach students how to lay out their tic-tac-toe board using painting techniques and how to glaze their game pieces properly. Students will be able to take home a fun project that also functions as a game. *Note- Due to the nature of clay, final projects will be ready for pick-up 2 weeks after camp at SPLAT Hershey.
